Hello, my name is Ashley Cara and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Rochester, NY. I received my undergraduate as well as masters degree from the University of Rochester and have over ten years experience in the field.
Background and Specialties
I have experience both practicing as an individual therapist as well as supervisor, and have worked in many settings including Partial Hospitalization, Community Mental Health, and Private Practice.
I am also trained in several different approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Mindfulness. My main areas of focus are anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, interpersonal and relational skills, and managing life transitions.
I approach therapy from a person centered perspective, and see it as a space for us to explore and expand your understanding of yourself and your day to day experiences. I highly value our collaborative relationship, seeking answers together on how to help you reach your goals.
Insurance and Fees
I currently take all Blue Cross Blue Shield, MVP, and Aetna plans with exception of Medicare. My self pay rate is $120 per session. I can take all common forms of payment including cash, check, card, and HSA/FSA.
FAQs
How long are appointments?
Our sessions are scheduled for 55 minutes.
How often do we meet?
Typically, when someone first starts therapy I recommend meeting weekly or biweekly as this helps with building our therapeutic relationship as well as more quickly and effectively addresses your needs. However, this can be determined on a case by case basis and usually reduces in frequency over time as you feel more stable.
How long does therapy take?
This answer is different for each individual and usually on a case by case basis. For some, therapy can take a few weeks or a few months, and for others it can be years. The most common factors are usually the complexity of the issues you are trying to address, the type of treatment, and at times simply the result of life circumstance.
What types of therapy can be provided?
I offer both In person and Telehealth appointments, and am experienced in a variety of approaches. I can offer an open talk therapy based approach, as well as a more structured approach if preferred including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and various other skill based work.
